Radio & Tv Broadcasting

·       Radio broadcasting ( experimentally from 1906, commercially from 1920)

·       Television broadcasting ,experimentally from 1925, commercially from the 19 30 ‘s . Seen as a direct competitor to radio at that time , and was an evolution from the industry .In fact BBC,NBC and CBS all started out with radio .

·       At first ,the major studios in Hollywood saw Television as a threat and Warner brothers for instance did not want to show televisions in movies .

·       1928 : the first TV stations were set up in the US Generally electric and was known as WGY television and WNBC ,part of the NBC network ,one of the biggest Tv network in America .At this stage all broadcasting was merely  experimental .

·       NBC is to tv just like Warner Bros is to motion picture both are owned by even larger multinational corporations.

1930 – BBC begins regular transmissions
1935 : Germany begins  transmissions
1936 : BBC through whats called BC television service began high definsion bodcasts from Alexandra Palace.BBC is non commercial .
1950-colour Tv introduced but failed to become popular  until late 1960’s
1956- first tv remote introduced by Robert Adler .
1962: AT&T devices telestar ,which is the first satellite system to carry tv broadcasts. Thus making tv international .
1969- first tv transmission  from the moon
Late 1970 : home video cassette recorders introduced .
1980: CNN launches first all news network : stereo sound in transmissions  and Dolby surround sound for tv’s  introduced.
1990 : Cabel tv introduced in the 40’s  began to take wide prominence in the 80 ‘s and 90 ‘s in Malta .
2000- analogue to Digital..allowing for a better resolution such as HDTV with better audio and extra features
2011 : Malta goes Digital
TV and Radio are considered as the 2 most revolutionary inventions
TV shows Film and music, Reality TV, Sitcoms, Drama , News and Quiz
New Media – Internet
Broadcasting today is changing
TV and Radio pushed music industry
Used Politically especially in WW2
